3-D MAGNETIC PARTICLE INSPECTION (MPI) UNITS
Solid State’s patented 3-D technology is perfect for applications that require high probability of detection, high production rates, or both. Most parts, despite the complexity of their shape, can be tested in one set-up without sacrificing quality.
Each circuit operates individually or in combination in “3-D” mode, if selected. All nomenclature for the operation of this unit is silk screened on the powder coated, swivel mounted control console located on the left side of the unit.
These Universal Magnetic Particle Testing units can be used as a conventional tester as well as a “3-D” (Multi-functional) unit, with AC, HWDC (Models with 6,000 amp output or less) & FWDC Magnetization and decaying AC and/or Reversing DC Demag.The Contact position provides a circular field of Magnetization. In the Contact position, these unit have single phase Full Wave DC (FWDC RMS) and/or AC and HWDC (Models with 6,000 amp output or less) Mag.
The Coil position provides a longitudinal field of Magnetization. In the Coil position, these units have single phase Full Wave DC (FWDC RMS), AC, and/or HWDC (Models with 6,000 amp output or less) Mag.
The Field Flow position provides a toroidal field of Magnetization. In the Field Flow position, these units have single phase Full Wave DC, AC and HWDC (Models with 6,000 amp output or less) Mag. The two field/flows have ten turns each connected in series for a better balance or a total of 20 turns.
Solid State’s 3-D Magnetic Particle Inspection units have a V-bottom tank used for a reservoir and a uniquely designed agitation/pump system for the proper agitation and mixing of the particles. Two nozzles distribute the particles over the part.The head stock is pneumatically driven.
A field-flow is mounted on each end of the unit, in front of the head and tail stock. The field-flows consist of a coil wound around an iron core. This will induce the coil field into the part. Coils are offered in various sized, if necessary.
Solid State’s equipment can be fitted with a motorized tailstock or a motorized continuous parts rotator, providing forward or reverse rotation for inspection of the part. These operations will be available from the control panel as well as from an operator’s remote pendant if the units length exceeds 78″.
All of our 3-D machines meet the requirements of ASTM 1444-E for both standard operation and multi-directional testers.
